Much like Globe-athon, Relay For Life events bring communities across the globe together to raise awareness about all cancers, including GYN cancers, and celebrate survivors.
Relay For Life events are the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, which uses the funds to invest in research for every type of cancer, including GYN cancers, and providing free educational information and services to cancer patients and their caregivers, such as providing rides to chemotherapy sessions.
Relay For Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local park or school. Events are up to 24 hours long and each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.
Relay events have become a special experience to celebrate survivors and honor those who have lost their battle with cancer and those who are still fighting. During Relay events, survivors take the first lap around the track, celebrating their victory over cancer while being cheered on by other participants. A Luminaria Ceremony takes place after dark to honor those who have lost their battle to cancer and those who are still fighting. Candles are lit inside personalized bags and are placed around the track as glowing tributes to those who’ve been affected by cancer.
In the spirit of Globe-athon, we strongly encourage you to find a Relay For Life event in your area.
